Department of Geology

Earth science education is an integral component of science education. Geology is a branch of earth science that involves the study of minerals, rocks, the Earth’s structure, landforms, and the processes that affect them. Deciphering records from Earth’s past provides the context for comprehending present earth processes Investigating historical records, as well as human engagement with present earth processes and resources, is crucial to humanity’s and the planet’s well-being.
Applied geology is concerned with the application of the aforementioned disciplines to economics, engineering, water resource management, environmental issues, climate change, and geology as they relate to human activities.

The Department of Geology under the School of Environmental Sciences, offering MSc Applied geology is designed to

Provide knowledge of advanced branches of Geology at post graduate level
• To make understand the students about the nature of our planet, changes, occurring morphology, and its impact on human life.
• To develop skills in exploration and extraction of natural resources such as minerals, rocks, fossil fuels and water
• To. recognize the Earth as an environmental realm and chalk out plans for conserving its resources
• Promote Research in the Geology and allied fields which is the need of the present and has immense potential in the future

 

Course : MSc Applied Geology

 

Duration of the Programme:

The duration of the program will be 4 semesters spread over 2 academic years.

Number of Student Intake : 10

Eligibility for Admission:       

B.Sc. Geology/B.Sc. Geology and Water Management with pass,   not less than 50% marks in Part III or CGPA not less than 5 at 10 point scale or CGPA not less than 2.5 at 5 point scale.

Admission Criteria:

   Admission will be on the basis of a Rank List Prepared as per the score   

   obtained in the common admission test (80%) and Interview (20%).
