State of the Map Kerala 2026 I Call for Abstracts
About OpenStreetMap Kerala
OpenStreetMap (OSM) Kerala is a volunteer community mapping the state’s roads, buildings, public services and natural resources into the free, editable world map. During the 2018 and 2019 Kerala floods, the community mobilised rapidly to provide mapping data that supported relief and rescue efforts — work that continues today through workshops, mapping events, and collaboration with academic institutions and government bodies.

About the event
State of the Map Kerala is a regional gathering that brings together geospatial enthusiasts, mappers, developers, researchers and advocates of open data from across Kerala. It’s a platform to exchange knowledge, share mapping experience, and explore new tools — through talks, workshops, mapping parties and panel discussions. The 2026 edition in Kottayam is the third regional State of the Map hosted by the community, following Wayanad 2024 and Kannur 2025.
Venue and Date
The State of the Map (SoTM) Kerala 2026 Conference will be held on 14th & 15th November 2026 at the School of Environmental Sciences (SES), Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.

OSM Science
A track for academic and research presentations at SotM Kerala 2026, in the spirit of OSM Science — the scientific/academic track of the global State of the Map conference.
OSM Science (also known as the Academic Track) exists to showcase research and innovation in the scientific study of OpenStreetMap, and to connect the OSM community with the academic community through an open platform for exchanging ideas and building collaborations. At the global level, it welcomes empirical, methodological, conceptual and literature-review contributions on topics such as data collection, integration and quality analysis; contribution patterns and the social and human dimensions of the community; AI techniques (including generative AI) involving OSM; domain-specific or policy-relevant uses of OSM data; and work combining OSM with other spatial data sources.
SotM Kerala 2026 is inviting academic and research presentations in that same spirit. If you’d like to present research or a scientific study involving OpenStreetMap, submit it through our Call for Proposals and select “Academic Presentation” from the Type of talk dropdown.
